World Day for Decent Work was observed by NTUC-I in Kathmandu. Around more than 1000 NTUC-I member took a rally (procession) and finished with a meeting addressed by president Laxman Basnet. He said, our focus is to make "Decent Work" a national agenda and included in the forthcoming constitution. For this greater coalition of workers in Trade Union and Political party is needed.
NTUC-I
NTUC-I central committee decided to hold a rally in Kathmandu on 30th Sept. 2008 to mark the "WORLD DAY FOR DECENT WORK" . Oct. 7th is the midst of national holiday of Dhashara and therefore on that day it would be not possible to hold any kind of rally and activity.
As you know our main aim is to put Decent Work in the coming constitution of the country. For that matter all the trade unions have made a joint trade union council. Through JTUCC we ask all the political party to support Decent Work to be the fundamental right of a citizen and worker.
The ITUC has called all its affiliates to mark the Year 2008 as the year for Decent Work. The ILO has set a Global Campaign targeting the Year 2009 as the 10th year anniversary of its gender equality action plan under the theme- Gender Equality at the Heart of Decent Work. Even the ILO Asia has set the year 2006-15 as Asian Decent Work Decade.
